Marius Single Vineyard Organic Syrah 2016

This independently owned winery is the fourth generation of the Piqueras family, which has overseen the property since it was established in 1915. The Piqueras winery is in Almansa, in south-east Spain, some 40 miles from Alicante and the Mediterranean Sea.

Sourced from a single 110 hectare vineyard farmed organically, the 25 - 30 year old vines thrive and produce super concentrated grapes in the limestone-rich soil, and hot humid climate, where there is scarce rainfall.

This delicious full-bodied Spanish Syrah is a stunner, and incredible value when compared to premium Hawke's Bay Syrah which sells well over $40. The wine exudes rich aromas of red cherries, plums and blackberries and spicy notes of black pepper. The intense red fruit flavours dominate the mid-palate, while the soft tannins and fine integrated oak ensure a medium-long finish. Balanced, excellent acidity, smooth and elegant in the mouth with a subtle hint of toastiness. Cellar 5 - 10 years.
